Introduction

I rely on FileZilla as my FTP/SFTP client for connecting to both local and online FTP/SFTP servers. While most settings are “set it and forget it” there’s one particular setting that occasionally causes frustration by filtering out files from the directory. Recently, I encountered this issue again during the installation of FileZilla on a new computer, prompting me to document the solution for future reference.

Issue

Upon a fresh installation of FileZilla and establishing a connection to an FTP/SFTP server, I found myself unable to view any files in the directory. A message displayed 9 directories (6 objects filtered), serving as a reminder to disable the “show only images” filter.

Resolution

To remove the filter and view the files, follow one of the options below to access the Directory Listing Filters:

  1. Press Ctrl+I.
  2. Navigate to View > Directory Listing Filters….
  3. Click on the respective icon:

In the Directory Listing Filters popup window, under Remote filters:, deselect the options you wish to see (in my case, it was show only images), then click Apply and Ok.

I hope this helps you avoid similar frustrations in the future!
